According to Ainsley - Ravishing!

We are in the pharmacy section of the grocery store.  It is right next to the bathroom.  If Ainsley sees a public restroom, she must use it.

Ainsley: "Mommy, I have to pee!"

She goes into the stall while I lean against the wall.

Ainsley: "Mommy, I have a great idea!"
Me: "What's that?"
Ainsley: "When I am done, I will stand outside the bathroom and everyone will walk by me and say 'You are so beautiful.'"
Me: "Really?  People will just walk up to you and say that?"
Ainsley: "Yes, because I am so beautiful.  They will say 'Wow, you are so beautiful.  And stabbishing.'"
Me: "Stabbishing?"
Ainsley: "Yes, stabbishing."

I hear a chuckle from the far stall and Ainsley finishes up and flushes the toilet.

Me: "So what is stabbishing?"
Ainsley (looks at me and shrugs like I'm insane): "So, so, so, soooooo beautiful."

The woman walks out as Ainsley washes her hands.

Woman: "Little girl, I have to say, you are so beautiful and absolutely stabbishing."

Ainsley grins shyly and says "Thank you."

The woman walks out of the bathroom as we dry our hands and gather our things.

Me: "So Ainsley, do you think maybe you mean ravishing?"
Ainsley: "What?"
Me: "You said you wanted people to tell you you're stabbishing.  Do you mean ravishing?"
Ainsley (shrugs): "They will say I am beautiful and stabbishing and ravishing."

According to Ainsley...and Freddie - Snakes

We're in the car...

Ainsley: Freddie!  You do not want to go in that tall grass.

She points out the window to a wooded area, preceded by a field with higher than average grass.

Freddie: My go der Aidey.
Ainsley: NO!  Freddie, do not go there.
Freddie: Why?
Ainsley: That is tall grass.  Know what lives in tall grass?

She pauses without a response.

Ainsley: Freddie?  Are you listening to me?  Freddie, look at me right now.

Freddie cranes his neck to peek around his car seat.

Ainsley: Know what lives in tall grass, Freddie?
Freddie: What?
Ainsley: SNAKES!!!
Freddie: Oh no!  My no yike nakes.
Ainsley: Freddie, snakes are so bad.  Don't ever go in tall grass.
Freddie: Okay Aidey, my no yike nakes.  My no go tall gwass.

Weeks later, we are walking into daycare.  Her lawn is very nice, with a landscaped area around the sidewalk.

Freddie: Mommy...uppy! uppy! uppy!

I hoist Freddie on my hip.

Me: What's wrong bud?

He points at the bushes near the walkway.

Freddie: Me scared.  Me no yike tall gwass.  NAKES!
Ainsley: That's right, Freddie!  Don't go near tall grass.  Mommy, we should not walk this way.

According To Ainsley - Shaving Simplified

I am reading to Ainsley in my room before bedtime (cause you know, she sleeps there now).  Clif walks in and takes off his shirt.

"Daddy, what are you doing?" Ainsley asks.
"I'm going to shave," he answers.

She literally jumps off the mattress and bounces into the bathroom.

"Can I watch, please, please, please?"
"Sure," he says.
"Why did you take off your shirt to shave?"
"So I don't get hair and shaving cream on it," he answers

I take this opportunity to fold laundry, pack my lunch, read my book, pick up toys lay on the bed and do absolutely nothing.

Ainsley perches herself on the toilet seat and waits for what comes next.

Clif spreads shaving cream across his face.
"Mommy, look at Daddy's face!  He is so silly."
Clif looks at me with white foam on his cheeks and chin.

"Daddy, are you going to shave your cheeks?"
"Yes."
"Are you going to shave that big hair on your chin?"
"Yes."

She's quiet for a minute.

"Daddy, why is that buzzing?"
"It's just my razor, it helps with shaving," he answers.
"When I am a grown up I can't wait to use one that buzzes," she responds.
"Well girls don't usually shave their faces," Clif tells her.
"Oh." She seems a bit disappointed.

Again, quiet.

"Daddy!  Be careful!"
"I'm being careful, Ainsley," he chuckles.

Her excitement can barely be contained.  She is up and down on the toilet seat, crossing and uncrossing her feet, jabbering on and on as I start to fall asleep.

I hear a crash and open my eyes to see her pinned between the wall and toilet.

Before Clif or I can say anything she yells "I'm okay!"  She jumps back up.
"Ainsley, just sit on the toilet and be still," Clif says holding back laughter.
"Okay Daddy, can I still watch?"
"Yes."

She leaps up again and throws her arms around his leg.
"Thank you Daddy!  You are the best Daddy!  I love you too much!"

"Daddy, you have some white stuff there," she points.  Clif shaves.
"Daddy, you missed that spot too," she points.  Clif shaves.
"Daddy, you didn't get all that big hair off your chin."
"I'm working on it, Ainsley," Clif responds.
"Okay Daddy, don't forget."

According To Ainsley - Dinner Time

Dinner time is a big tangled mess of emotions for me.

I love having dinner with my family.  I love talking with the kids and catching up on our days.  It's the only time we all sit for an extended period of time...together.  Between full time jobs, daycare, trips to the playground, errands, dance class, etc...this is our time to connect as a family.

It doesn't come easy.  I'm rushing around trying to get everything cooked together, feeding children snacks, playing with kids, talking to kids, answering questions, feeding dogs.  Ainsley can barely keep her butt in the seat.  Clif is usually walking in the door as I'm pulling dinner from the oven.  Freddie makes a mess and prefers his utensils on the floor.  It's basically an hour of pure chaos so we can all sit together for 5 minutes in peace and tranquility before Freddie asks to get down and Ainsley complains about the food.  But I know that these hectic dinners now, will lead to well balanced family in the future.

So here's a sample of our dinner time conversation...

Clif: What's this?
Me: Roasted veggie enchilada casserole.
Ainsley: Okay, Daddy, I need to finish my story now.
Freddie: My all done.
Me: Freddie, you haven't eaten anything.  Have a bite.
Freddie: I no yike it.
Clif: Mmm, this is good.  Freddie, try some.  It's good.
Freddie: No! Ah dowwwn!
Ainsley: So, I am Princess Celestia and I have a little sister named Princess Luna...but she is really Midnight Moon.
Freddie: (crying) Ah dowwwn!
Me: No Freddie, you need to eat something.  Just take a bite.  It has corn and cheese.  You love corn and cheese.
Ainsley: Mommy, I'm telling you a story.  Shhhh!
Clif: Ainsley, don't tell your mother to shhh.  How about you wait to tell the story and just eat your dinner now?
Ainsley: (nose squished up) I don't like this, it's furious.

Long pause

Me: Ainsley, do you know what furious means?
Ainsley: No
Me: It means angry...so your food can't be furious.
Ainsley: Well, it is furious because I am completely angry with this dinner.

So there you have it, why I love and hate dinner time.

According to Ainsley - Bedtime

BOOM!

Pat-pat-pat-pat-pat-pat-pat...

POP!  Creek...

Clink!

I look at the clock...10:35.  Apparently a certain little girl is not as asleep as she was an hour ago when I checked on her.

I step quietly up the stairs until her little head comes into view.

"Ainsley?  Did you wake up to go potty?" I ask.

She nods.

I think about the oddness of this and ask, "Did you pee in the bed at all?"

She shakes her head, "But I spilled just a little bit of water in your bed."

"In my bed?"

"Yes, I was watching Phineas and Ferb," she explains as she washes her hands.

"Oh really?  Why aren't you sleeping?  It's very late."

"Well, I did sleep but then I was awake and then I was thinking that we could watch some TV, but you never came to your room," she answers.

"I checked on you an hour ago and you were asleep.  How long have you been in my room?"

She looks up at the ceiling, weighing this idiotic question since she has no concept of time and replies "Twenty."  Then she scoots past me and wanders down the hall.

I follow her into my room, where she is indeed watching Phineas and Ferb.

"Ainsley, I want you to go back to your bed.  It's very late sweetie and little girls need to be sleeping."

"Mommy, I already told you...I went to sleep, now it's time to watch TV."

"Ainsley, sleeping for a couple of hours is not good enough.  You need to sleep all night so you can wake up and be a happy child in the morning."

"I'm not tired," she replies.

I ponder this for a moment.  We've been working very hard at getting Ainsley to go to sleep on her own, and so far it's been working well.  I'm worried that if I push this issue and force her back to bed it will end in a screaming match and tomorrow we'll be back at square one.

"OK Ainsley, just this once, I'm going to allow you to watch this show while I finish making Daddy's lunch.  I'll be up in 10 minutes and then it's time to sleep.  Do you understand?"

"That's a deal mommy."

According to Ainsley - Conversations with God

Ainsley: Mommy, when you have a baby in your belly can you get two baby durl twins in your belly?
Me: Well...maybe...but I don't get to decide that.  We've talked about it, mommies and daddies don't get to decide if they are having a boy or a girl in their belly and they don't get to decide if they have twins or not.
Ainsley: Why?
Me: Well God decides that for us.  He decided that first I needed a baby girl and then I needed a baby boy.  That's why he gave me you and Freddie.
Ainsley: But I really want two baby durl twins so I can have two baby durl sisters.
Me: Well, you'll  have to talk to God about that.

Ainsley (hands folded and looking up at the sky): Dod...hi, it's Ainsley.  Please but a baby in my mommy's belly.  But please put two baby durl twins in my mommy's belly.  I want to have two baby durl sisters because I already have a baby boy brover.  Otay Dod?

Ainsley: Mommy!!!!
Me: Yes?
Ainsley: I just asked God to give me two baby durl sisters in your belly and he said yes!
Me: Well, that's exciting.
Ainsley: High five Mommy!

According to Ainsley - Playtime

Ainsley (bossy): Mommy, you be the teacher and I will be all the babies.
Me: Okay Ainsley, but we can only play for a bit before I have to go make dinner.
Ainsley (whiney): But Mooooommmmmmy!  I want to play dollies.
Me: Well, you can play while I make dinner.
Ainsley (again, whiney): Nooooooooooo, I want you to play with me.
Me: Ainsley, we'll play for 10 minutes, but I have to make dinner.  You are able to play on your own sometimes.
Ainsley (sad): I can't play by myself.
Me: How about we just play?

So we play with the barbie dolls and dozens of little princess figurines that are the babies.  All the babies get dropped off at daycare and the teachers begin the day.  I get a little glimpse into what life is like for Ainsley at daycare.  She orders me around to match her daycare day.

Ainsley (again, bossy): Okay, now it's time for the babies to go down for a morning nappy.  But the big girl, who is 4, she gets to play and watch Dora.
Me: Is that what happens at your school?  All the babies go to sleep and then you play and watch Dora?
Ainsley: Yes.
Me: What do your teachers do then?
Ainsley: They are rocking the babies and feeding the babies bottles and then they clean up from breakfast.
Me: Do they play with you?
Ainsley: No, I play by myself.
Me: Okay, well now it's time for me to make dinner, so you can play by yourself.
Ainsley (crying): NOOOOOOOO!
Me: Ainsley, if you play by yourself at school, why can't you play by yourself here?
Ainsley (cross between duh mom and sweet as pie): Because you're here Mommy.
Me (putty in hands): Oh...okay...well...I guess I can wait to make dinner.

I think we had grilled cheese that night instead of the dinner I had planned.

According to Ainsley - Bedtime

Yay, According to Ainsley is back!  I really love this weekly theme, I'm sorry it's been gone for so long.  I like the idea, that one day when Ainsley is older, I can let her read all of these.  I'm sure she'll get a kick out of them.

Okay, so a little background on this one.  Ainsley's a bad sleeper...you know, right?  If you've read my blog at all over the last 3.5 years, then you know this.  She doesn't go to sleep without a fight, she can't put herself to sleep, and she doesn't sleep through the night.

One night, last week was particularly bad.  I was at my wits end and could feel that I was getting ready to snap.  I had been lying with her for over an hour and I had diapers to wash and a basement to clean and lunch to pack and it was going on 10 o'clock.

So I got up, told her to stay in bed and not to wake Freddie and I walked out of the room.  She immediately started screaming and I decided I just needed to let it happen.  So I went down stairs.  I wasn't downstairs 5 minutes when I heard little feet and sniffling coming down the stairs.

Clif and I walked her back upstairs and we both sat in bed with her.

Clif: Ainsley, it's time for bed.  You need to go to sleep.
Ainsley: I know, but I am not tired.
Me: If you don't go to sleep you'll be really tired tomorrow.
Ainsley: Can the puppies come in here?
Clif: Sometimes, does Brinkley get in bed with you?
Ainsley: Yes, he likes to come in my bed and then we can cuddle.
Clif: Does it wake you up when he gets in bed with you?
Ainsley: Yes.
Clif: Is that when you come into Mommy and Daddy's room?
Ainsley: Yes.
Clif: Well how about, instead of coming into Mommy and Daddy's room you cuddle with Brinkley and go back to sleep.

She thinks about this.

Ainsley: Well, I do sometimes go back to sleep.  But sometimes I have to come in your room so I can tell you something and then I am going to come back to my room and cuddle with Brink Brink and go back to sleep.
Clif: So you don't want to sleep with us, you just have to tell us something.
Ainsley (giggles and sighs): Um, yes Daddy.  I don't want to sleep with you sometimes.  Sometimes I just want to tell you something and come back to my room because my room is so beautiful.
Clif: Okay, well from now on how about you just tell me something then come back to your bed.

She thinks again.

Ainsley: Um, well, I think that I don't want to sleep in my bed. I think that when I wake up I will just sleep in your bed.

That night, Clif went to bed and I sat at the foot of Ainsley's bed while she didn't go to sleep.  I fell asleep propped up against her stuffed animals.  When I woke up at 3AM, she was snuggled up next to me at the foot of the bed.  I went to my own bed and 30 minutes later, she's opening the door and climbing in between us.  And so begins our nightly dance...

According to Ainsley - Star Light Star Bright

"Star Light, Star Bright
I wish, I wish, I wish a might
I wish, I wish, I wish a might
have a wish tonight..."

This is Ainsley's version of "Star Light, Star Bright."  Cracks me up every time.  She says it every night before she goes to sleep.  What's funnier, is what she wishes for...

Always folding her hands in prayer, she recites the poem.  Then she pauses and shuts her eyes so tight and whispers her wish.

"I wish that I could see a real fairy."
"I wish that I could see mommy in a dress and tell her she is beeootaful." (I wish that I could acurately explain the way this child says beautiful...it is awesome)
"I wish that I could be Freddie's mommy."
"I wish that Mommy had a baby sister in her belly."
"I wish that I could sleep in Mommy and Daddy's bed."
"I wish that we could have our own house in Carolina."

All such simple little requests.

"Star Light, Star Bright First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,  have this wish I wish tonight..."

I wish that I could make all Ainsley's wishes come true.

According to Ainsley - Standing Up

As a mom, I struggle with many worries...

Are they eating enough fruits and veggies?
Did I brush their teeth well enough?
Are they getting enough sleep?
Is that runny nose leading to a cold?
Are they watching too much TV?
I forgot the vitamins again!

All of those, I feel like I can control a bit.  I can make rules about snacks, I can brush teeth again, I can set an alarm for vitamins.

But, there are some things I worry about, that I'm afraid I won't be able to control...and it's those that keep me up at night.  One thing in particular, especially with Ainsley - probably because she's a girl...

Will she be able to stand up for herself?  Will she go along, even if she knows it's wrong?

I'm not very good at standing up for myself.  Actually, saying I'm not very good at it is a grave understatement.  I'm terrible at it.  I don't.  I am quiet, and shy, and always worried about people liking me or hating me.  If I don't talk to a friend for awhile, I'm sure I've done something to upset them.  If people are whispering, I'm sure they're talking about me.  If all attention is suddenly directed my way, I find my escape as soon as possible.

I don't want that for Ainsley.  I want her to feel confident and sure.  I want her to stand up for herself.  But how do I teach that, when I can't do it myself?

This past weekend, we spent the afternoon with some old friends.  They have a little boy just a bit younger than Ainsley.  He and Ainsley are kind of hot and cold.  I think it's a difference in personality mostly.  They were on the deck, and I'm not even sure what they were playing.  I didn't hear what was said leading up to this, but as I heard Ainsley's voice rise, I turned to see this...

Ainsley on her tip toes, towering above the boy, finger waving, yelling "NO!  I am not a horse!  I am a kid and don't you DARE speak to me that way!" With that, she spun on her toe and walked away.

I asked her later what it was all about and she said that the boy wasn't sharing so she didn't want to play with him.  Then, after explaining she said, "Oh no!  I forgot to tell him I'm sorry for yelling at him!  I will tell him next time."

So, maybe that's one less thing I need to worry about.

According to Ainsley - Are you seriously wearing that?

Ainsley: Mommy, are we going to Daddy's birthday party?
Me: Well, it's not really a party, it's just dinner.  But yes, once we get to the house, we'll get ready and go.
Ainsley: Are you going to wear a dress?

I look down at my black skirt, black tank, and cardigan.

Me: No, I think I'll wear this.  It's kind of like a dress.  It's a skirt.
Ainsley: No Mommy, you need to wear a dress like me.  I want you to wear a dress so you can look like me.
Me: Well, I don't have that many dresses (And I think to myself I really need to do laundry).  Don't you think I look okay in this outfit?

She looks me over...uh oh.

Ainsley: Well, that is a pretty dress, but what is on your shoulders?
Me: What do you mean? My cardigan.
Ainsley: Ummm...yeah, the tardidan.
Me: Do you like it?

Ainsley scrunches up her little face and then...
Ainsley: No Mommy, no I don't.

Great! Fashion advice from a 4 year old...although I probably need it.

According to Ainsley #16 - Boobs!

The following reflects multiple conversations that I have had with Ainsley over the past few weeks about boobs.  I may be mixing up some of the stories...apparently we discuss boobs quite often.

Ainsley: Mommy?  When will my boobs be bigger?
Mommy: Probably when you are a teenager.
Ainsley: What's a teenager?
Mommy: Someone who is 14 or 15 or 16 or 17
Ainsley: But Mommy, I want bigger boobs right now.
Mommy: Believe me Ainsley, you don't want bigger boobs right now, they just get in the way.  And, there's really nothing I can do about it.  You just have to wait.

Ainsley: Mommy?  Why are your boobs so big?
Mommy: Because that's the way God made me.
Ainsley: But why did he make you with big boobs?
Mommy: I guess he wanted me to be able to feed my babies with them.
Ainsley: But WHY?
Mommy: Well, God makes us all different.  Some people have big boobs, some have big bellies, some have big ears, some have big legs.  God makes everyone different so we won't all be the same.

Ainsley: Mommy, what do babies eat from your boobies?
Mommy: Milk
Ainsley: Like chocolate milk?
Mommy: No, I don't think it's ever chocolate milk.

Ainsley: Mommy, can I feed Freddie with my boobs?
Mommy: You don't have any milk in your boobs, so you can't feed Freddie.
Ainsley: Can we put some milk in my boobs and then I feed Freddie?
Mommy: It doesn't work like that Ainsley.
Ainsley: Please Mommy, can't we just try and then check it out?

According to Ainsley #15 - Growing Up

"Mommy look!"

I turn to see that she has connected the top buckle of her car seat.

"Ainsley, that's awesome.  You're such a big girl," I say as I connect the bottom harness, "Can you slow down?  I don't want you to be grown up yet."

Ainsley smiles as I close the van door and walk around to the driver's seat.

She is quiet as I pull around the neighborhood and out onto the road.

"Mommy?" Ainsley asks.

"Yes?"

"Why don't you want me to grow up?" She is a bit sad when she says this.  Almost like I just told her Santa didn't come.

"Because I want you to stay my little girl forever," I respond.

"But Mommy, I can't stay your little girl forever.  I have to grow up.  I am already so big."

I look into the rear view mirror at my not so little girl...her once bald head, full of blond curls...her once tiny body, long enough to touch the passenger seat...her once incomprehensible vocabulary, extensive enough to express feelings and thoughts and ideas.

"I know Ainsley, everyone has to grow up," I say quietly.

"Yep Mommy, everyone has to grow up and I'm going to too," she smiles and looks out the window.

Yes, Ainsley, you are and will.

According to Ainsley #14 - Little Miss Know-It-All

Ainsley: Mommy, I am almost 5.
Mommy: No Ainsley, you just turned 4.
Ainsley: No Mommy, I already turned 4 and now I am almost 5.
Mommy: Ainsley, you are not even 4 and a half yet.  You have to be 4 and a half before you can be 5.  You have 11 months until you are 5.  When is your birthday?
Ainsley: July.
Mommy: Right, and do you know what month we are in now?
Ainsley: No.
Mommy: We just finished July and now we are in August.  So, let's say the months and count how many until your 5th birthday...August, September, Oct...
Ainsley: Mommy!  Stop!  Why do you always say those things?!?!?  You always tell me things!!!  You do not have to tell me these things, I already know them!

According to Ainsley #13 - Rapunzel is the New Ainsley

At the pool, a little girl about 4 says to Ainsley "My name is Meg, what's your name?"
Ainsley responds, "Rapunzel."
I jump in, "No, what's your real name?"
"Rapunzel," she answers matter of factly.

Little Meg looks at me very confused.
"Her name is Ainsley," I say.
"NO IT'S NOT!" Ainsley yells and looks back at Meg, "My name is Rapunzel and this is my friend Flynn." Ainsley points to the empty side of the baby pool.  Meg went to find her parents.
**************************************************
At the grocery store, an older woman is behind me in line.
"Oh your children are precious," she says.
"Thank you," I answer.
"And what is your name little girl?" she asks Ainsley.
"Rapunzel," Ainsley answers.
"Tell her your real name," I say to Ainsley.
Ainsley looks at me, then at the woman "Rapunzel."
The woman chuckles uncomfortably as I say "Her name is Ainsley."
***************************************************
At the mall, in the children's play area I am sitting next to a mother of a little girl about Ainsley's age.
Ainsley runs over to tell me about what Flynn just did.
The little girl asks "What's your name?" to Ainsley.
"Rapunzel," she answers sweetly.
The mother looks at me, "Is her name really Rapunzel."
"No, it's Ainsley," I respond.
Cue eye roll from Ainsley, "No, my old name is Ainsley, but now I have long hair and my name is Rapunzel."
"Well that's nice," says the other mother, "Rapunzel, meet Ava...I mean, Ariel."
Now looking at me, she says "Aren't you glad you worried and stressed over the perfect name just to have it replaced by some dumb Disney movie?"
Exactly!

Mommy: Keek is 27.
Ainsley: WHAT?!?!?  That is soooo old.

I texted my sister-in-law to tell her what her niece thought of her age.  I'm not sure she found it as funny as I did.

According to Ainsley #11 - A House in the Clouds

Ainsley: Mommy, where do hippopotomuses live?
Mommy: In the jungle.
Ainsley: Where do hippos live?
Mommy: A hippo and a hippopotomus are the same thing.  They both live in the jungle.
Ainsley: What lives in the clouds?

Umm...

Mommy: Birds.
Ainsley: Are there houses in the clouds for the birds?
Mommy: No.
Ainsley: I think we need to get a balloon and go see.
Mommy: You want to ride a balloon up to the clouds and see if there are houses?
Ainsley: Yes.  And we need a dragon.
Mommy: What do we need a dragon for?
Ainsley: To fly us.
Mommy: I thought the balloon was taking us to the clouds?
Ainsley: Yes, the balloon takes us to the clouds and the dragon takes us to the mean world because dragons are mean.

Ainsley: Well, some are nice and they could fly to the clouds.

According to Ainsley #9 - Let Me Point Out Your Flaws

Ainsley: What's in your belly?
Mommy: Nothing.
Ainsley: Food?
Mommy: Yes, there is food in my stomach.

Ainsley: Why is your belly so big?
Mommy: Because I don't have time to exercise, and thank you!
Ainsley: You're welcome.

Ainsley: Hey Mommy!  Maybe your belly is big because you have a baby sister in there!!!!

Pretty sure that's not the case Ainsley, and once again, thank you!

According to Ainsley #8 - Twaffic!

We live outside of DC.  Traffic?  Is not an annoyance - though it is annoying - it is a way of life.  Ainsley has learned this in the 5 months we've lived here.  Mommy, does not deal well with traffic.  Mommy may have a touch of the road rage.

So tonight, after picking them up from daycare we are greeted with the longest line of traffic I have ever seen on the road leading to the house.

"Mommy!  What is that?" Ainsley says, shock oozing out of her mouth.
"That Ainsley," I answer, "Is really bad traffic."
"Oh no.  I hate twaffic," she sighs dramatically.
"Yes Ainsley," I sigh, mirroring her drama, "I hate traffic too."

I finally manage to squeeze in between a commuter bus and a dump truck.

"Go cars, go!" Ainsley yells.
"Mommy, they are not listening to me."
I look back and smile at her, "I know Ainsley, they never do."

At that point a fire truck screams by.  As the air settles, Ainsley takes a deep breath and says "What...the... HELL was that?!"

I laugh, I can't help it.

"Ainsley?  Did you just say What the hell?"

She nods.

"Well, you know that's not a very nice thing to say?"
"I know mommy, but what the hell is with this twaffic?"
